The Positive Effects of Age... Really!

BD Jefferies Aging with grace?  Positive Effects of Age?  Have I lost my mind?  Clearly I am on the brink of a mid life crisis!  Or am I?

Ok, maybe a little bit of both, but I am SO into old.  Not men.  Just stuff.  Hopefully that wasn't necessary to clarify, but just in case...

So, if we are talking old stuff... Is there really a positive effect to age?  Absolutely, resoundingly yes!  One of the things I hear suburbanites complain about all the time is that their homes look "cookie cutter."  By using items with real patina (not a house full of stuff from Kirklands made to look old on a factory line in china) but the real deal.  Old junk, as the less savvy, might be tempted to call it.  It's the stuff that adds real character to our homes and makes them feel collected.

I went to an estate sale recently.  The home was old, small, and evidently owned by an elderly woman who had kept everything from her hundreds of blue ribbons from horse competitions to trophies and books.  It was heaven.  I early editions of books for $2 a piece (Why didn't I buy more?!) and a vintage mirror and an arm load of stuff.  I've already added some of it to my mantel...

"It’s not just antiques but also pieces that conjure the effects of age"

And then I came across the home of a kindred spirits... fellow "old" lovers as we shall call them.  B.D. Jeffries Shop owners, Brad and Debbie Weitz, have been selling their found treasures for decades in Atlanta's hip neighborhood, Buckhead.  And now they have opened their home for us to peek inside.

Shall we take a little tour and see if we all agree on the positive effects of age?

Besides Estate sales, Etsy is an incredible place to find great vintage books and mirrors.

If you don't have a ton of money, add linen on the cheap.  It adds texture and won't break the bank.

This vase is a great find, too, if you are still on the fence about real old stuff.

Grain sack products abound and can be quite affordable.

Sometimes you just need to splurge on something you absolutely love, ... and dream a little.

Other times, you grab it up because it's hard to find something authentic and budget friendly!
