My Little Paris Kitchen :: You NEED this cookbook!
I am SO excited to share this little discovery with you! One of my very favorite British chefs, Rachel Khoo, has her own channel on YouTube now. I've been watching her videos at the end of the evening (which means I usually miss the ending but whose judging, right?)
My husband noticed how excited I was and surprised me with her cookbook.
Not only is it beautiful to look at but the recipes are really easy to follow. They demystify quite a few French recipes that I don't think I ever would have thought of attempting before (with a bunch of no brainers in there too for those of us who aspire to cook French but really need something quick with few ingredients.)
This cake is definitely among the no brainers. It was so easy my kids almost made the whole thing without me while I was separating and beating the egg whites. I just folded them in to their bowl and voila! Into the oven it went.
I did add an icing drizzle just to be completely and utterly obnoxiously American, but you can decide which side of that fence you want to lie on! (I threw in some vanilla extract and zest to the juice from the fruit I had zested for the cake and then added powder sugar until I thought it tasted good and had the consistency I wanted.)
It was sooooooooooo good! My kids loved it, my husband loved it... and I'm sure my neighbors and friends would have loved it... if I had shared. I'm definitely ordering Rachel's second cookbook, "My Little French Kitchen: Over 100 Recipes from the Mountains, Market Squares, and Shores of France" (It's a long title but after a peek inside... caramel, ginger, & raspberry lighthouses? yum! I'm convinced that I'm going to love that one just as much!)
Here's one of her videos below. You can blame me when you get hooked on this British sweetheart!
