If weekends are all about escaping the hustle and bustle of the weekdays, then your weekend needs Modern Pastoral, a brand new interiors book which is focused on escaping our busy lives and finding tranquility. Written by one of the sweetest gems, Niki Brantmark, who up until now has been most known online for her brilliant blog, My Scandinavian Home, and photographed by the charming and ever so talented James Gardiner, this book will literally transport you away to a place where life slows down and nature revives the soul.
Having the very good fortune to live only a bridge away from Malmo, where British native, Niki, lives with her Swedish husband and their two girls, I was delighted to attend the book launch a few days ago. After a little peek at a few of the photos, I promised myself (and Niki and James) that this was a book that demanded a weekend, a cup of coffee, and a cozy blanket.
So, after showing great restraint, I threw some logs into the fireplace this morning and settled in for a visual feast. As expected, I found the book to be utterly brilliant. The homes are incredibly inspiring and Niki offers loads of tips and tricks for achieving an escape, whether your home is in the countryside or right in the middle of the city. Through four sections, forest, graphical, homestead and waterside, you will have no shortage of ideas and inspiration for a retreat, even if you never leave your couch. If earthy stone, cozy wood floors, soft linen, and light, ethereal escapism is your thing, then you definitely need a copy of Modern Pastoral
